I didn't see any recent threads about this so I decided to make a new one. If there is a thread dealing with this, my apologies 🙂 Anyways, I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to read through my PTCAS essay and provide pointers/advice? I am a high school sophomore and applying for really competitive Math-Science summer programs at universities. They require personal statements. After my positing, I just got a PM from a person in here and he just said "PM me" so I PMed him my essay... but I got nothing from him. Even I asked him if he's are working or taking care of it or had no time to do it, he's never replied. That makes me a little cautious...then, I found villacog's generous posts here and I got impressed that good people are still around here. villacog, it looks you're taking a look at several essays and you must be so busy for your own things, too, but if you could have time to take a look at mine, I'd appreciate it...

If you're worried about that poster "stealing" ideas, I'd relax on that idea. You're a high school sophomore asking for someone to read a math-science essay for university. It has nothing to do with pt (and if it actually does, sorry for assuming). I think your ideas are safe lol. I asked a few people to read my pt essay last year and several took a few days, but gave the best feedback.
 
Gort, there are sooooooo many essay ideas online, including PT essays! It's easier to get them from google than hunting for yours 🙂. Do not worry about it!

Yes, rather than worrying about "stealing", because I wrote specific names of my teachers in my essay, I was worried about their privacy--but, as nicolej5 wrote, it turned out that I got the best feedback all thanks to great people here!! I'm so thankful to them as well as nicole5 and easb. If they are OK, I shout out their nicknames and would like to tell everyone how wonderful they are! I sincerely appreciate what they did for me.....Thank you..thank you again...!
 
I applied this last cycle but unfortunately did not get in. I have since talked to the schools and received several comments that my personal statement could use some work. I got a few comments that the school/interviewers weren't sure why I wanted to go into PT. I know I need to revamp my essay, I have a few ideas but I'm not exactly sure which direction to go in. Would anyone be willing to PM me their statement? Nicole, I think I've read a few times that people who have read your essay have really like it, would you be willing to let me take a look? Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

I dont know what others have said in their personal statements but your welcome to look at mine, most schools said it was a strong point in my application...PM me your email and I will send it over

Just keep in mind my work is my work 😉

The question focuses on why you chose PT over health care careers, and I think that it is essential to focus on that. A lot of people write about wanting to help people or diagnose or cure to whatever, but any health care professional can do that. Make sure to distinguish why PT. Think about what sets PT apart from other careers; where in the timeline does PT fit in, and why do you want to be at this stage of the healing process? (prevention or improving fitness versus diagnosing and prescribing meds for example).

I think format can be anything that works for you, whether that is a structured 5 paragraph essay with an intro, middle and conclusion, or an essay that starts with an interesting story and goes from there. It's up to you, just make sure it is memorable 🙂
