So I want to apply early to increase my chances of getting in. I was wondering if anyone knows whether the essay question is the same every year so I can start writing it. Also, if I apply in augest, is that early enough or should I apply earlier. Thank you!

Optomcas changes topic every year. Since next cycle starts in mid July, apply in August is early enough.

Do they? I thought the topic is the same every year. Something along the lines of what experiences you've had and how they influence you in terms of optometry. The exact prompt is in the FAQ. Check there first.

I remember reading one of the threads where someone called the optomcas and asked the same question, and the reply he/she got is the application changes every cycle. I could be wrong thou. I think the best way is to call them and get a straight answer, and please let us know the result 🙂

If they called and that's what they said then it's probably true. I just don't know how they can come up with another topic that's like...relevant, you know? If you're not talking about your experiences or why you want to be an optometrist, I don't know what you would write...Adversity questions? lol yea, go with whatever optomcas said on the phone. Everything I say is Mewcakery; I tend to talk without actually researching. 😛

After reading this thread I emailed optomcas asking about the essay question. The response was:

"Sometimes the questions change from one cycle to the other and sometimes they don’t. Please wait until the 2011 admissions cycle opens July 15th, 2010."

In my opinion, last year's question seemed to cover all of the basic aspects as to why the applicant is applying to optometry school and why he/she would make a good optometrist. I can't imagine that a new essay question would vary that much. I'd recommend that you just assume it will be the same question so that you can get a head start on the essay. Even if the question does end up varying, I'm sure you can incorporate part of your response into the new essay. That's what I plan on doing at least.

Hope this helps!
