Essay topics

Are the essay topics all health related? Do I need an in-depth knowledge of our health care system to do well on the essay? If anyone knows the answers to these I thank you in advance for letting me know. I am a decent writer, but when I looked at the sample topics in the Arco 2006-7 book I got slightly nervous.

The essay I had in Oct was totally unrelated to health...and I didn't think I did very well but still got a 4. I believe they look for grammar and quality of writing over content...cause mine was full of crap. 🙂

unrelated to healthcare and something I never really gave any thought to before then. Which made it even harder. Atleast healthcare is related to our ultimate goal.

in the end it doesn't matter and the writing score doesn't mean ****. i'm not worried about it at all.

You can completely bs your essay's content and still make a 5... so long as you have no spelling or grammar errors, use transitions and follow the 5 paragraph essay form.

You have 30 minutes to write an essay in response to a statement that either expresses an opinion on an issue or presents a problem needing a solution.
Here's Harcourt's examples:

Argumentative Topic:
The ideal of democracy that emphasizes the equality of all citizens is at odds with the reality that individuals possess varying degrees of excellence and ability.

Problem-Solving Topic:
Discuss a solution to the problem of America’s dependence on imported non-renewable fossil fuels such as oil.

Just so you guys know, there is only one question on the actual test. I thought that there would be two for some reason, but there weren't. Also, I felt that my essay topic was much MUCH easier than the ones that harcourt gives. I was pleasantly suprised 🙂

Thanks for the input folks. I appreciate it. It sounds like it is similar to the GRE essay, and that was easy enough.
