Hey Ladies and Gents

Now that people have taken the inservice exams AND the real tests I'd like to hear some objective / unbiased reviews about EtherPrep.

I didnt sign up for it this year, but did consider it. Do you guys think it was pretty indicative of what was on the exams? I mean in terms of difficulty of questions, etc. Or would you just stick to Hall as your primary question source?

I think this thread would be helpful for many of us in the future.

Thanks

I was largely unimpressed and would not recommend it, especially for the price. I purchased it with educational allotment funds for the in-training exam after my CA-2 year.

The questions are reasonable, and many are like the real thing, but less well written and few if any have more than one logical step to them. The explanations leave something to be desired and the references are almost entirely to Faust or M&M.

Many a thread about preparing for the written board exam has already been posted with certain consistencies that guide me in the choice of review materials. I regret that etherprep will not make my list when I take it for real next year.

I also would not recommend it. For the price, I don't think it was worth it. I thought the Hall book was more useful than this. They also don't give any feedback on how you did either. For example, what is considered a "good" score on these practice exams? Some of the questions were a little weird and I thought the answer they gave was not correct for a few of the questions. The content on the actual exam seemed more in sync with the Hall book. Also, there are only about 260 questions on etherprep which I thought was way too little. When I emailed them (a week before the exam)asking if they were planning on adding any more questions in the near future, I never got a reply from them (which really pissed me off!). Sorry, I cannot recommend etherprep.

I also cannot recommend EtherPrep. I found numerous spelling/grammatical errors and several of the questions were never paired with possible answers. Then, I was unable to access about 10 questions – not good when there are only 250 total. I emailed the company twice – the first time about a week before the exam and just heard from them yesterday with the old “our IT program is working out the details.” The customer service wasn’t satisfactory as well as the lack of attention to question/answer detail. There are only 250 questions to proofread and double check. I am sure the authors would never think of submitting a personal statement or publication with this lack of attention to detail. I got the feeling that once they had my money, I could sit and wait for a response.
It’s unfortunate because I was looking forward to a computer based program that would mimic the new test format with updated questions – maybe more ICU questions.
If I have to take the exam again I will go with another trusted and tried source (Hall, Faust, Jensen ?).

Hey Lucy Dog,

take it from an old dog that a good source of review material is HALL. By far the best book out there. THen, get the ACE from the ASA as it is the next best CHEAP review material avail. I used ACE along with Hall for my recertification and found them excellent resources. Last but not least was Foust.

If you have the time (i did not) go through the Hall questions twice. The 2008 ACE from the ASA was the best one yet for review and relevance.

Blade,

Thanks for the test review advice. I hope that I won't have to take it again but if I do I will check out your recommended books/tests.
