Ethyl amine + Methyl Iodide

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What is the result of ethyl amine plus 3 moles of methyl iodide?

Since it's easy to alkylate amines (especially with methyls) you can get the ethyl amine product with three methyl groups on it and a positive charge on a nitrogen. That's then a great leaving group, which can be eliminated to give ethene and trimethyl amine.
