Hi everyone,
I noticed that on the bottom of the GRE general confirmation email, there's a thing that says people may request up to four ETS PPI Evaluation Reports as part of their test fee. Is this PPI thing taken into consideration at all during admissions and is it worth sending it?

I don't know this for sure -- and anyone else, please feel free to correct me if I'm making inaccurate assumptions here -- but my guess is that this is just another ploy for ETS to make money. I noticed it when I got my score report too and considering sending it, until I really looked into WHAT it was -- all it is is a set of "personality characteristics" that your chosen recommendors comment on.... eerily similar to the letters of recommendation they're already writing for you, yes? As far as I can tell, there's nothing more in depth that an LOR won't already provide for you and your admissions committees (for free...!). So in my opinion, no, it's definitely not worth sending!

I agree. The PPI is very new, so I doubt most grad school programs would not care and probably not even know anything about it. Feel free to send in the first four free ones-it can't hurt. But for $20 bucks, I wouldn't waste your time

I've been out of school for a year and a half and am thinking about applying to graduate school. I've chosen five people to list as professional references. Three of them are from academia and the other two are employers. I realize that most schools require two or three references.
In addition to this, I'm thinking of submitting something ETS has recently developed. It is called the PPI or the personal potential index and measures a student's likelihood for success other than using test scores. ( http://www.ets.org/portal/site/ets/menuitem.435c0b5cc7bd0ae7015d9510c3921509/?vgnextoid=822d25d339fcd110VgnVCM10000022f95190RCRD). Categories for evaluation include:
· Knowledge and Creativity
· Communication Skills
· Teamwork
· Resilience
· Planning and Organization
· Ethics and Integrity
Evaluators rank students using a likehert scale in each of the areas listed above. Institutions will then see an overall score for each area. Has anyone submitted this form along with their letters of recommendation?

In my case, I would obtain three letters of recommendation, but also have a summative evaluation form from five individuals. Did it benefit you? Should I submit letters of recommendation and the PPI or letters only? If I submit letters of recommendation do you suggest I obtain letters from those in academia or should it be a combination of both work and academia? Should I select the three individuals who will provide me with a strong letter of recommendation regardless of their occupation?

Thanks for your help.

I just want to know if you can score a 0 overall. 😉

I might add what a HORRIBLE TOOL... No empirical support for rating someone in the top 1% other than anecdotal experience of the evaluator... seriously... This tool sucks. If I was an evaluator, I'd throw this in the toilet where it belonged.
