Did anyone else apply and recieve their secondary from Eastern Tenn State? I'm currently in the process of writing my last few responses. Even though there were a lot of short answer questions, they didn't seem quite as redundant as say....Loyola's, in which half of the questions were answered on my AMCAS personal statement (which of course, I referred them to).

Also, any ETSU students on here? I'm just curious about how you like the school. A doctor at the clinic that I'm currently employed with graduated from there, but I haven't had the chance to talk to her yet. Just trying to get some perspective!! 🙂

Yup, got mine today. Tryin to fill it out. Kind of an annoying number of questions, but like you said, not very hard. Do you know if anyone has gotten an interview from ETSU yet?
Good luck filling it out!

I have two very close friends who go to ETSU and know some other acquaintances who do, as well.

It's a very tight-knit bunch of students and faculty, and ETSU is known for taking care of its own. I've heard there is a lot more bonding that goes on there then at Memphis.

I'm currently filling out my secondary. Actually, I really need to get off SDN and just do it.

I think ETSU is one of those places I really need to see in person. I think I could like the idea of Johnson City (I could definitely like the music and the scenery). I think I could like the idea of a smaller school. I'm just not all the way sold just yet.

Anyone else get the impression that ETSU students tend to marry one another? I know of two such couples.

ETSU is my number one choice for a number of reasons. I'm pretty sure I want to do primary care. I know I want to be in a small town. ETSU has a high reputation in primary care/ rural medicine. I'm from TN and really prefer the Eastern part of the state. My wife just took the TN bar and doesn't want to take another state's bar.

Like you guys, I've heard amazing things about the close knit group that ETSU creates. Anytime you only have around 60 students, that has to be a good thing. I feel a smaller group is ideal for my learning style. If I get in, this is where I am headed.

I was surprised by the secondary. It was the last one I received and the most involved. I received it on the 6th of August and sent it out on the 10th. Still no interview. I did get confirmation that all my materials have been received. I hope to meet some of you there for interviews. Good luck!

What do you think it would take to sell you on the idea?

I've heard it's rather a close-knit group as well, which is appealing to me. I'm just amazed that I got their secondary, since they give first preference to in-state, second preference to appalachian area residents. Me? I'm in Oregon, which is almost as far away as you can get!! But i'm interested in rural primary care (hence my application to ETSU). I sent off my secondary today, about a week after I got it. My LOR should be on their way there from my pre-med committee as well.

Oh, and I read on the website (I believe) that they do NOT have rolling admissions, so therefore I don't think that having a complete file early does any better than later. Perhaps they are simply getting them in shifts so as to be able to spend more time looking over your portfolio? *shrugs* Don't take my word as biblical, I'm just trying to remember what I read.

Good to see other applicants to ETSU at this board! 🙂

ETSU is a great school. It's good for a ton of reasons, including small class size and a virtually brand-new general science building. Rural is the way to go! Any questions, post them or PM me and I'll be happy to coax you. 😉

I interviewed at ETSU last cycle (albeit very LATE in the cycle.. ie. MARCH)

but after seeing the school, the area, and speaking to the people there, it is absolutely my first choice if they give me another chance to interview.

Thanks, I'll keep the PM offer in mind. 🙂 They are my #2 choice behind Oregon HSU. RURAL ALL THE WAY!! 🙂

How much of the student body typically follow the RPCT? How much does it actually differ? Do you think it's a + or - even if you decide not to do rural medicine?

Hey ETSUers-

I got the "you are complete" e-mail 20 August, and the interview e-mail today. They assigned the date (gulp, hope alterations are done in time) and the email had some note about reschedule. Something about they "interview on an irregular basis" etc. etc. Might want to keep this in mind for when yours comes - may want to just take whatever date they give you so you don't end up getting pushed too far out. Let me know if there are going to be any friendly SDN faces there with me; it's the first interview I'm going to :scared: .

I gave a copy of the e-mail to my Biochem prof so I could reschedule my exam instead of my interview 👍

I got my "you are complete" email on August 30th, so I suppose I'll be waiting a bit longer for my interview notice (IF I get one....I'm out of state).

I don't know about that - I got an "application complete" e-mail on the 20th but have not heard from them yet regarding an interview. It would be interesting to know how they go about planning their interview season.

I will eat my words! I got an interview on the 21st of this month.

I got an interview on October 4th! I totally wasn't expecting one. 🙂
