hey, ive been reading about eugenics and discovered that supposedly its viewed much more favorably in East Asia (china, singapore, maybe japan too) in this day and age than it is in the USA, where im located. in modern times its frowned upon in the whole West actually. how is it perceived in the East? i read that since the East places more value on societal welfare as a whole, in contrast to the individualism of the West, eugenic policies and practices are considered much more acceptable.

to tie this into medicine--well, eugenics is related to medicine, but i would think a few areas in particular would pertain to it, such as medical genetics, urology, and obgyn. but this is a serious thread, im eager to hear any comments. in addition, you could perhaps include your personal thoughts on the issue of eugenics, assuming you have an eastern mindset. i already know that those with western thinking tend to strongly disapprove. but thats why im in the Asia forum.

aside from that, how does medicine differ in the East from medicine in the USA? ideology, formalities, technology, drugs, compensation, insurance, govt involvement--just anything. im particularly interested in singapore if anyone out there has input on that. im thinking about expatriating to there maybe after schooling here--am i out of my mind, or would anyone else also consider that, and why? ive considered HK and japan too, but singapores language (english) and large indian presence (me) make it a more practical destination for me. will the 21st century belong to the East?
