I know you guys are tired of these threads, but I though I was in pretty good shape for DO schools -- until I saw the other stats thread. 😱 Also, I can only afford to apply once and that's it.
Anyways, here goes:
Major: B.S. Psychology
Minor: Music
Science GPA: ~ 3.46
Cumulative GPA: ~3.45
MCAT: Taking in April
Student Organizations/Honors:
Psi Chi (Nat'l Honor Society for Psychology)
Left Bank Jazz Ensemble (Fall 2004; couldn't do it in Spring)
Leadership Experiences:
Peer Leader/Ass't Instructor in Fall 2004 for UNIV 101 program.
Tutor for kids
Mentoring new martial arts students.
Clinical Experiences/Volunteering:
After-school Science/Math Tutor for High-School Kids.
Hospital ER Volunteer for about 4 months.
Shadowed Surgeon, DO.
*Might* Start back in the ER in January, find a job in a hospital, or start volunteering in the free clinic.
Extracurricular Activities:
Martial Arts; not the "attend class twice a week" type, but serious training. Train ~ 10 hours/week formally and ~5-6 independently.
Music; Saxophonist. Play indepedently at community functions and events, as well as formally in college Jazz ensembles.
Misc:
First person in family to attend college. Father did not graduate high school, got a GED instead.
I'll have one awesome non-science LOR, and probably two mediocre science LORs; one of them might be good.
A mediocre DO LOR.
Pretty decent essay.
