I feel like posting all of the extracurriculars and what not would obfuscate the evaluation of the list, but here are the basics:

3.99 GPA, 35+ MCAT, Male, URM, Florida Resident. I don't want to provide too detailed a list of my extracurriculars and what not, but I have definitely been involved in the community as well as research.

University of Central Florida
University of Florida
University of Miami

Vanderbilt University
Boston University
New York University

Duke University
University of Chicago
Johns Hopkins University
Yale University
Harvard University
University of California, San Francisco
Washington University in St. Louis
Stanford University
Columbia University
University of Michigan
University of Pennsylvania
Cornell University

Thanks for your input! I feel like it's top heavy though?

If you have no particular reason to go to those 5 middle schools, just cross them out. You are good to go with those top 20 schools and state schools.

You could add Texas schools if you're looking to stay in the southern third of the country. Good job on your grades/MCAT.

Oh, thanks guys. Texas schools use TMDSAS, though (extra application = yuck). I do like Baylor (which I know isn't TMDSAS), however!

Too many schools for your stats!!

I'd take out the middle group. UNC is crazy with the instaters, and for the OOS they look for people with lots of life experience. Vandy's nice. I loved it, but you'll get into at least one of the upper tier list, and I think you'd pick it over Vandy. UVa, also nice, but mucho expensive and no change for monies. Again, you'd pick the higher tier school. Don't know much about BU or NYU, but again, I think you'd like the other schools you'll get into better.

I'd also drop a state school unless you really love all of them. I just don't think you'll need 4 safeties.

Also, why are you applying to every single prestigious school out there? Sure, they are all great, but can't you narrow it down a bit by location?

In the end, this is all your choice, but that's a lot of secondaries and interviews to do!

True, but tuition and cost of living are very low once you become a TX resident! I understand the yuck feeling though, the apps are a drag. As ksmi said, you have plenty of schools on your list, you can afford to be a little more selective.

It's not too top heavy for your numbers. Hopefully you have the ECs and LORs needed to demonstrate to top schools that you have the potential to become the future leader in medince that they want to train. You've been on SDN long enough to know what the 'triple crown' of excellent ECs entails, so I'll assume you know you have the substantive research, leadership, and community service that such schools are looking for. I think your state schools are sufficient for safety purposes.

Maybe you should consider adding the other Florida state schools, or at least USF. I just think everyone should apply to all of their in-state options, you can always choose not to go, but these are excellent safeties.

I like the Boston area and I feel like just applying to Harvard means a very small chance of ever living there.

You are going to get into Harvard and will be getting full scholarships from many top ten schools. Just don't stab anyone or set any buildings on fire and you'll be fine.

Ok, sounds good 🙂. I don't know about the full scholarships at all, that seems like the stuff of Gods (aka Ksmi), but I do appreciate the sentiment, especially coming from someone who attends one of my dram schools.

Can you help me get into Columbia P&S though? I really, really, really like that school!

Are you willing to commit? If you are and hint that, barring financial difficulty you would come, Columbia has a full scholarship fund for their favorite URM applicants outside of the general pool of merit money. As far as admission, I can't really help you with that besides the same advice that I give everyone who asks for it. Play heavily on an outside interest (preferably in the arts if the legacy of Dean Frantz continues through Dean Nicholas) and you will have a very good shot at Columbia with your stats.

I agree with this. I would apply to all your in-states and then the top 20. You can keep BU on the list if you like. I would definitely eliminate the other schools in the middle of your list.

You have solid scores. Good luck.

the list is fine. delete the middle ones except for vandy. i think it's a great school and i would take it over at least half of the top 10 schools. just my opinion of course.

What did you like about Vandy? I have yet to hear one bad thing about Vandy; everyone seems to enjoy it.
