1. BS. Electrical Engineering (International College, GPA 3.75)

2. MS. Computer Science (Well known US College, GPA 3.54)

3. Recently completed Science pre-req 8 hr of BIO-CHEM-ORG-PHY (Community College, GPA 4.0)

4. DAT - due in 2-3 months

5. Five years of dental industry experience at various level (Don't ask me how computer guy ended up in dental field but done lot in dentistry beside actually treating patient, very knowledge about the industry, A-Z)

Hope you know that most dental schools don't take CC pre-req credits.

As for your chances, your gpa is fine, your DAT scores will determine your competitiveness.
But again, I don't know why you took those pre-reqs at a community college, instead of a 4-yr university.

Your undergrad GPA is truly exceptional. Since electrical engineering is one of the core engineerings like civil,mechanical and chemical. I am sure that you spend incredible effort to make that GPA (but many adcoms do not know the toughness of enginneering programs).Your graduate GPA is not great, but it is good. In US. average grade for a class is B to B+ in grad. school, and C+ to B- in undergraduate instituions, if bell shaped dist. of average is used in the program.Your community college grades look excellent too. But an important question rises here. Why did you take those classes from comunity college rather than a 4 year university? 5 year dental related experience will put you elite candidate pool in that category. I think scores close to 20 in aa,ts and pat (no individual section is less than 17) will make you very competitive. Good luck with your application 👍.

We really can't evaluate you without a DAT score. And yeah, a lot of dental schools will not take CC credits. My school, Tufts, is one of them.

I was bit reluctant in beginning. I had called up couple of dental school, discussed with member of admission committee (not aa). I even met with dean of admission at one of the school. They said they would prefer 4 years college but since I already have Undergrad and master degree and since I’m working full time I have perfect explanation for taking these courses at community college. It accommodates my schedule well and not too expensive!! But your point is absolutely valid; most of the schools do prefer 4 years college over CC. I’m taking bit chance here. I had no option. I did get accepted at 4 years college. Their schedule didn’t fit mine at all. Beside most of the 4 years colleges will transfer these credits, in case I decide to do another undergrad, won’t they? BTW I’m not anticipating any other undergrad, just in case you are wondering.

I’m planning of having above argument/explanation in my PS. Let see how that works out for me. Some time you have to take chance in life.

If your school of choice said it's valid, then it doesn't really matter. I can understand why you took those courses at a CC, but you might want to check with all of the schools you are applying before throwing your money in the pool.

Some schools strictly state that CC pre-req credits are not accepted.

That's right.

OP, in your case I think you don't really need to worry about it if you score 20+ on your DAT. I personally took gen. bio, chem, physics, and a&p at a cc and didn't have any problem with any school I applied to. Someone above mentioned Tufts, heck yeah they are the only one I know for sure won't take any cc prereqs, so you have to retake all the courses again before dental school starts if you are accepted there(tufts). I don't understand it.. but whatever..😉

Oh, I think that talking about it on your ps is not a bad idea, but I would just touch it briefly and more focus on your strong pts. just my 2cents! GL!

One thing that worries me though is..
have you taken any upper level science courses?? I did take a lot at a 4yr univ. and still managed to get the same gpa as I got at the cc to prove my ability in science.

No, I haven't. Honestly, I don't even have time to take those course before I apply. Yeah, I'll be continue taking more course through out next year before the all school starts in Fall 2010. I'll mention that to interviewer/in PS. Bottom line, at this moment I'm focusing on my DAT, application and my last couple of core courses which will end soon. Thanks for the concern though. I appreciate it.
