I would appreciate if anyone knowledgeable in this matter could kindly provide me with some details on such opportunities in Philadelphia.

My friend is considering a change in career and I am encouraging her to consider her true love for medicine. She has abundant of volunteer svc, both healthcare and non-health care related. However, she initially did not pursue a career in healthcare due to difficult family situations. She graduated with a BBA (merit) from National University of Singapore in 2.5 years and doubled majored in Marketing and Logistic Managment. However, her cGPA after conversion is only 2.8/4. I believe she is capable of much better performance because back then she worked 2 part time jobs while attending full time in school and overloaded every semester. Also, she has no science GPA, but she was very good with sciences when we were studying in the same junior college. Therefore, she needs to get the pre-req out of the way and raise that GPA up!

However, I am not very informed of the opportunites available in Philly and would appreciate those of you who might want to dip in and suggest a few things to do or the schools offering such evening opportunities! Thanks for all your time!
😀😀👍😍

Im she is willing to enter a program there is one that is specifically for her needs. The PMED program at Drexel University is specifically for career changers. Classes are held in the evening and in addition to all the pre-med classes you get some MCAT preparation as well. I think it runs 2 years though. Also I believe there is some connection with the medical school as in a linkage but I'm not sure.

Hope that helps!

USP won't be an option. However, if you type Sciences and Philadelphia into google it will probably be returned as a result. There are no night classes for the pre-reqs.

Ditto this. Drexel has a 2 year part time program. My husband also looked into programs at St. Josephs and La Salle, but I can't remember if the classes are at night.

I would suggest checking out the postbac forum on SDN. There are many informative posters there, including people who are very knowledgable about the various postbac programs available in the Philadelphia region

Drexel!!

Thank you folks for the enthusiasm! She has to support her family so it would be nice if Drexel accepts her into their program. However, I was checking it out on their website and it asked for a cGPA of 3.0.... She only has 2.8... >.< I am not sure if that means the end?? 😱

Also, I have been looking into Community College of Philadelphia for her... any thoughts? Anyway thank you all again!! 😀

If postbacc forum is a better place for this thread, could a mod please kindly move it? appreciate it! 😍

I would imagine that Drexel will allow your friend in. The admissions standards for the post-bacc programs are rather flexible, except for maybe the IMS program. If the friend applies, have her contact [email protected].

Showing interest in this fashion will almost certainly gain her acceptance. Drexel is definitely not cheap, but the PMED should allow for a student to work and take classes at the same time. Good Luck.
