Then how do you communicate? Do you issue personal dumb phones to everyone?

There are differences between anes and CRNAs, but i seriously doubt you can say anesthesiologists are less likely to be on their phone than CRNAs.....
Hell, i use my smart phone to look up relevant topics to my case all the time...
Wow. You must be over staffed if you can just fire people on a whim. Who came up with this policy, can’t be anyone who spends significant amounts of time in long cases...Easy. Anyone caught using a cell phone during a case is immediately fired.
Sounds like someone is ignoring ASA's motto. (Psssst....it's VIGILANCE).Sounds like high school
Nah, just a very desirable practice. We have no problem hiring quality people.Wow. You must be over staffed if you can just fire people on a whim. Who came up with this policy, can’t be anyone who spends significant amounts of time in long cases...
If it's a marathon case that's train tracks stable, there's only so much one can do... It's hard not to use cell phone here and there. I use it to look up certain pertinent information or whatnot
I do appreciate that everyone on here who fesses up to using their phone during a case is exclusively on PubMed like they are all Blade. 😵
Before the advent of smart phones (and the www, really) we had magazines, novels, newspapers, you name it. And we were on the phone. A lot. Crossword was the primary non-reading pursuit at that time as soduku had not yet gone mainstream. Not 100% though. That would take some real skill.

We need to get back to the days before oximetry, capnometry and automated BP measurement when we had our finger on the pulse, an esophageal stethoscope, and constant monitoring of blood and skin tone.😉

Indeed...that way you have to choose between reading a book and doing a crossword. Definitely cannot do both...

Ok, so personal cell phones banned. Which of the following in your group will get you fired on the spot?
- personal cell phone for work related emails
- work issued cell phone for work related emails
- personal cell phone for work related texts
- personal cell phone to read academic journals
- e-reader to read professional books/journals
- e-reader to read leisure books
- hard copy professional books/journals
- hard copy leisure books
- hard copy newspaper or magazines
- crossword or puzzles
You see the point I'm making - either your group's policy has more nuance than you let on, or it should.

It is an honor and a privilege to serve our patients and people who are using their phones while anesthetizing someone are betraying their hypocratic oath...

dont see anything wrong with using your cell phone. it's just replacing the old stuff. is there a difference between doing crossword on paper vs cellphone? obviously you shouldn't be watching a movie with earphones on
