Subjectivity sucks! That being said, how do you handle the preceptor who gives everyone a B/HP? I have a preceptor who flat out said that they do not give out A/H's and that almost everyone gets a B/HP. I know this has been discusses time and time again about the struggle that is third year when it comes to subjective grading. In all reality I probably don't deserve an A/H in my current rotation but for that student who really does superior work they should be rewarded for it. Then on the other end of the spectrum the student who does crappy work should not be reaping benefits from this preceptor's "One Grade Size Fits All" mentality.

I was forced to start off with a neuro elective. As a matter of rule, no one received higher than a B in it. Nothing I could have done to change it.

He would not write a LOR for any student unless they opted todo some sort of stroke fellowship?

it sucks, but there was no changing it.

Welcome to the third year!

It's the ideal situation, I loved when preceptors said that, it meant I could slack off and just focus on the shelf exam.

This is definitely a silver lining in that perspective, but when preceptor eval's count for the majority of the grade, a stellar shelf exam won't make much difference (I probably won't be setting any records on my shelf exam either so this hurts too). Oh, well! I can write my own prescription for this one:
