What do you do when the whole world doubts you will ever get into pharmacy to achieve your dreams of getting into pharmacy school? My family has constantly been telling me that to be a pharmacists is a girl profession. I am always being made fun of by aunts, cousins, and uncles that I am going into a bad profession. I applied to pharmacy schools this year but got rejected by the schools that I applied to. I am not giving up, failure is not an option for me. I am going to work for a year and then reapply. Has anyone ever had to deal with so much negativity constantly? Idk, I am sorry for all of this negativity, I just wanted to vent on here cause I am sure there is at least someone else that has dealt with all of this negativity like I have.

To everyone that got accepted this year to pharmacy school, all I want to say is, "Congratulations and I wish you all the very best in pharmacy school. Good Luck everyone."

I love your attitude! Not giving up while facing adversity and learning from your failures on how to get better next time. Look, you dont see it much in SDN but many applicants dont get accepted on their first try, do it again next year, and get accepted. Everybody has dealt with situations like these at some point in their academic or professional life. People like that are everywhere. I just ignore them and continue to follow my plan. If pharmacy is really what you want to do, then keep pursuing it. As long as you keep working your hardest and improving, you will be accepted somewhere.

Just curious, what do these family members do for a living?

This should give you a good personal statement.

Ill say exactly what I said in the other thread on this subject:

Family is overrated.

I can definitely relate with you on this one man. I had advisers tell me multiple times that I would never even get an interview invite to schools because of my GPA, PCAT, and ECs. I just basically told all of them I would prove them wrong and after working as a tech, volunteering, destroying the PCAT, and writing all of these experiences in my personal statements it paid off. It will pay off for you too man, just use all of that negativity as fuel to prove to all the doubters and to yourself that you can do it. Nobody else can tell you can't do something unless that person is you. Kick some ass and reapply! You've got my support!

Exactly.. just tell them more opportunity for you to find a quality GF/wife. I still find this funny because 20 years ago it was predominately a male profession. It does suit women because not many other professions out there allow you the flexibility to earn 6 figure salaries and be able to take months off for maternity leave. I swear, pregnancy at my place of employment is like the flu.. everyone is catching it.

Follow your own dreams! Next time tell your family that Pharmacy has traditionally been a male profession. Prior to gender equality, it was almost completely dominated by men.

F*ck em. Keep that chip on your shoulder. Success is the best revenge.

Thanks, I appreciate that. I hope so. I want to get into pharmacy school for myself but at the same time I just want to shut all the doubters up. It can be so frustrating. People around me will do so much just to put me down.

Well I am a Indian, so there are always high expectations. All the guys in my family are either doctors, engineers, or lawyers. All the girls in my family are pharmacists. For me to not get into pharmacy school and being a guy is a even bigger disgrace according to my relatives, they constantly put me down for that.

Thank you very much I really appreciate your support. I will never give up. Failure is not an option for me. Everyone can put me down and make me feel bad however they want, I will not stop until I get into pharmacy school and become a successful pharmacist.

Yeah my thinking is that whatever pharmacy school I end up at there will be majority girls in my class and there are no complaints for me. I would happily enjoy that.

Yeah I am going to research on that and show it to my family, prove them wrong about it.
