I hate interviews and will probably be my worst fear and since I have been taking public speaking courses I have obtained some "backbone" so to speak. I am interested in question people have had and the standard questions and deviated questions. Thanks W.D.E

Here are the ones I've encountered:

1) Why do you want to be a dentist?
2) Have you done any research?
3) Do you have good manual dexterity?

Personal Fav...... 😱

4) Tell me something about yourself. (How the heck can you answer an open-ended question like that?!?!)

Thanks Doogie for your reply, I am trying to get a list going to find repetitions in questions to get a feel for the interview. Even though this has low probability it at least gives me a false sense of security in the dreaded interview. Think of anything else let me know.

Hi arctctura - I don't like interviews either. So far I'm looking pretty great on paper, the interviews will be my big challenge. I hate when people say "Oh, just act naturally and be yourself." For some of us, that just doesn't work. I'm going to try to predict questions as closely as possible also. That has always worked very well for me on job interviews and I can usually make my answers seem spontaneous. Good Luck, Margaret

Thanks you for your input Margaret, I know what you mean "acting naturally" I assume only happens amongst friends and since I don't have any friends in any of the admission offices it is hard to act naturally. Especially since your career and what you have worked for the last 4 years or so is hanging by acting naturally. That is why I am trying to get people's questions so I can predict with some sort of educated quess on what is going to be asked. I offer you good luck and please let me know what you find out. Thanks

Hi,
archtctura, did you apply for dental school this year? If not, you might want to consider talking to the dean of the dental school prior to applying. This way when the interview rolls around you will feel more comfortable and will already have a rapport with the dean.
Tim.

Thanks beyonder, I have definitely given that a thought. I am making arrangements to meet with the Dean and Director of Admissions of a school I want to go to for next month. I think that is a good way to feel people out and develop a cetrain idea of how to act in front of them.
Thanks again Beyonder

Here are some questions that I remember:

> Tell me about yourself (ie: why should we accept you?)
> Why this school?
> Why dentistry?
> Any experiences at Dentist Office? If so which procedure(s) was a most interest to you?

Odd ones:
> Did you take a prep course to prepare for your DAT?
> Why such a low grade on this course?

My advice: Practice before you go to your first interview and get honest critique from your friend or advisor.

Never beg, but be confident yet humble. Remember, if the school has invited you for interview, it means that the school is really interested in you. Also, wear your best professional attire. (I have observed on more than one occasion students showing up with casual clothes)

Good luck.
