Who's holding onto an EVMS slot? Any of my potential classmates out there? Also, where are you guys planning to live, etc.?

🙂 Potential classmate

I'm living practically across the street from the school on Redgate Ave. If you're pretty certain about your acceptance, I highly recommend trying to secure a place, b/c I had a hard time finding an apartment close enough to the school that I could walk. I can give you several suggestions if you'd like. I have finally secured a place, but still have my material.

Good luck!

thx anath. should i hold off signing a place until i hear from mcv--which could potentially be the whole summer. my parents place is in va beach so i guess i could suck it up and live w/them in aug and sign a place for september. i would be interested in reading any suggestions now though on places!

Okay --I've seen this on several posts/threads. What in the world is up with this whole "bump" thing??

i'll be at evms in the fall.

Anath, BUMP means "Bring Up My Post" -- posts get moved down the list as time passes and new posts are made. BUMP allows you to bump up your post and bring it back to the top of the list so you can call attention to it.

anath i PM'ed you.

uncwalley, do you have your living arrangements all in order?

Yay!!!! Welcome, UNC! :-D

Funky,
I don't have a place to live, but I do have a couple roommates. One wears my wedding ring and the other is covered in red hair and has four legs.

uncwalley, i hope to god that second creature is a dog.

does anyone know if the classroom has internet ports? is anyone else getting a laptop?

Do you know that in all things that I remember abotu EVMS, for the life of me, I cannot remember what the classroom looks like or even where the classroom is. Small study rooms were comfortable ... the offices in Fairfax Hall or also nice ... but classroom?? Gets me ....

On that note, how *was/were* the classroom(s)??

You don't remember the classrooms because they didn't show them to us (my group on my day at least). They showed us the patient learning center (where there are patient actors) and the library, but not the classrooms. So you are not losing your mind, they just never let us peek at them.

Ah -- well, after I posted my reply, I had to take it back. I remember walking into a lecture room but I didn't pay much attention to it because we started to get into a conversation about doing/not doing research after year 1 (the guide suggested we relax and do nothing science or medicine related b/c it will basically be our last free summer). I remember darkness and thinking that the classroom was larger than it needed to be. Other than that though, don't remember much.

bumpity bump bump

Does anyone mind posting your stats (is that the right term?Sorry!I'm new!) that got you into EVMS? GPA/MCAT/whatever else Thank you! 😀

Congrats to all of you!

I just got back from looking for apartments in the Norfolk area. Everything is so much more expensive there. Have ya'll found places? Where is a good place to live that isn't going to cost me over $800/month? Also, when should I be seeing some financial aid stuff? I need to know how much I can spend on an apartment and still eat. Thanks. Later.

I think you need to get out of Norfolk and try Either Chicks Beach which has some apts that arent badly priced or Va beach which has apartments that are not bad. You may want to try ODU area becaue you can get on Bus line. Big Bill

uncwalley, i started looking at apartment guide books yesterday, and there are cheaper places all over if you dont mind a 10 - 15 minute drive. chesapeake, too, also has reasonable prices.

good luck.

hehe. Brian -- glad to see you got those apt guides. Had been wondering what had happened to you.

As for apartments and budget -- I dunno if you're in state or out of state, but either way, but give you about a budget of $1200 per month (10 months) for living and personal expenses (not including books). So go by that. And there *are* many cheaper housing in the area.

Also, go to this link and click on the "classifieds" link on the right. It will list several apartments and check it regularly during the week.

eep!😱 i just started looking for housing down there...is it too late to even hope to find anything closeby? anyone out there in sdn land looking for a roommate?

hi riopsedm

maybe you should check out the evms classifieds. they are a few people looking for roommates. also if you have a car you shouldnt have any problem finding a place that's maybe 5-8 miles out.

thanks funkdoc.

is it really feasible to drive to school every day though? i know parking is included in our fees and all, does anyone know what the area around there is like (traffic-wise, etc.)?
