I got accepted two weeks ago. I made a deposit for EVMS but am still waiting to hear from Drexel, BU and Georgetown. Anyone else accepted and thinking of going?

I just submitted my application to them a few days ago. The program looks great and if I get accepted I will definately attend. Do you mind my asking what kind of stats you had. I had a really bad undergrad GPA and even after 39 credits of post-bac...im just not sure if I'll make the cut, even though I have a 31 MCAT. Anyway, good luck!!!

Also submitted my app a few days ago. Are you waitlisted (MD program) anywhere?

No- i applied to an embarrasing amount of schools (25) and didn't get in anywhere. I am retaking the MCAT, since my scores are going to be expired. EVMS people - where are you at?!

DO you mind sharing your stats? I applied to the program as well and am wondering who they accept.

34 MCAT, 3.3 GPA, waitlisted at EVMS's MD program (I'm a reapplicant -- I didnt get in anywhere last year either). The Master's program does sound nice. Anyone out of state and have applied? Im in FL.

I'm in texas and I applied. With those stats I'd expect you to be a shoe in for the program.

Honestly- i don't know what got me in. I believe in myself, but NOT my numbers. I already took the MCAT two and three years ago- 9v 6p 9b and then 8v 9p 9b. My gpa was like 2.8.
I took some grad level courses at U of Michigan during my senior year and did well (B's and B+). I have a strong personal statement and CV because I have had a lot of leadership, volunteering and personal experience in the medical field. I ton of extra curriculars and two years at NIH doing research with posters and presentations and a publication in the works.

I can't say I understand my how ad comms see my profile. I've been successful getting into masters programs: EVMS, Barry, UMDNJ, NYMC and UofB Roslin Park Cancer Institute. But for MD application this year (and I applied to 25)- i got no interviews 🙁 .
I applied late to MD but by early January for the Masters.. that might have made a difference. Hope this info helps, and best luck!!!!

No No No...you probably read something my brother wrote while he was logged in as me. I havent even had the pleasure to interview anywhere. Thanks for the praise though!

Anyone else read SDN going to EVMS masters?

You guys, they should have answers for everyone by now. Apparently if you made it to the admissions committee, you're at least "waitlisted". So you're either admitted or waitlisted. I think they admit quite a few MD applicants to the masters program (at least 10, if I remember correctly) so if those people get into the med school, more people will be admitted to the program.

I've been reading more about EVMS in the other forums and it sounds like the M1's really enjoy the place. I didn't know anything about Norfolk prior to this and I'm thinking about visiting. I encourage all of you to go and read those posts.

Do any of you know the process of matriculating into EVMS from the master's program. I know that they don't guarantee admission but is there some kind of tacit understanding where if you maintain a certain GPA and get a certain MCAT score they'll let you in?

Both of you are interested in medicine? That's kickass. My lil bro wants to be a paramedic part-time, but that's after he finishes his last two years in the Navy.

got my official packet today. I'm sending in my money. Who's coming along this ride?

I'm still waiting on loyola, g-town, BU and RFUMS, but at this point, I don't even know if I prefer Gtown over EVMS. I've been reading more about the school and I like it a lot.

It looks like to be able to apply to EVMS SMP you had to take the August MCAT (or earlier) since the app deadline for the program is in early April... Does anyone know if one can submit GRE scores if you have to take an April MCAT (I want to apply next year for 2006 but can't take the MCAT until April because I won't be done with classes by this August-- damn the MCAT for only being 2 times a year). Good luck to you all, it looks like a great program!

Go to their FAQ section and read the first answer. As far as the GRE, you'll have to ask them if you can substitute it for the MCAT. Most other programs will allow you to. (Georgetown for sure)

I'm still waiting on a response from them. how long was your app complete before you received a response?

My application was complete on 3/21. You should call Toni Dorn and ask the status; she totally doesn't mind.

If you got waitlisted from the MD program, there's no way they denied you from the masters program; at the very least you'd waitlisted there too. (is my logic correct?)

I think your numbers are better than mine; you should have very good chances.

cheers

i can only imagine getting waitlisted at both programs. not having a clue where I'll be at come August.
my app was complete right b4 the deadline, so i'll give it a few more days.

Just call them and ask what your status is, the administration is more than helpful. You aren't scared are you 😀 . Seriously though, the administration is super nice and will certainly help you out.

i've been bugging her a lot to get my app complete b4 the deadline (needed to transfer records from the MD program to the Master's).

i'll think about calling 🙄
did u check ur status yet?

Tooth, what's your story these days. Where are you gonna end up at?

Well...i got waitlisted at EVMS 👎 . I was told I am in the high middle range and typically there is a lot of movement on the waitlist so there is still hope. I also applied to Drexel and Gtown and am still waiting to here back. My applications aren't complete there yet so all I can do now is wait. I am trying to come up with a good plan Z in case I slip through and don't end up anywhere. Perhaps Tulane's 1 year masters program or something like that. EVMS sounds pretty sweet and so does so it would be a toss up between those 2. If neither of them work out I'll shoot for Drexel. How's your decision making process coming along?

I'm still waiting for G-town, BU and RFUMS. I need to speak to the program director at EVMS and get some more details. Barring any surprises, I think I place EVMS pretty high on the list right now, even before BU and RFUMS and possibly tied with G-Town. I'll definitely be sending them my deposit. I hope you get in...I'm gonna need some friends.

yes, you can be my friend. I'm not picky.

Is there usually still a chance to gain an acceptance if I was placed on the wailist at the EVMS Masters program? Does everyone end up on the waitlist if they don't get an acceptance? Doesn't show much to be on the waitlist if that's the case.... Any thoughts or comments would be great! thanks!

I talked to someone in the office a while ago and she told me that some applicants don't even make it to "admissions committee". Apparently, if you make it to the committee, you're either accepted or waitlisted.

take that for what it's worth.

Toni told me that there were roughly 100 applicants, with 26 acceptances sent out and about 35 people placed on the waitlist. So about half to a third of the applicants were rejected outright. She also went on to say that last year they had to send out 40 acceptances before they filled the class but that this year there was an acceptional number of qualified applicants, many of whom are waitlisted for medical school so she expects some movement on the waitlist. All you can do is cross your fingers brother. Are you a religious? Good luck!!

Has everyone who applied to the EVMS SMP heard back (one way or the other) from them? I got an email confirming my application is complete earlier this month, but nothing since then.

Should I be worried, or are others still waiting? I am in sunny California so maybe my mail is a few days later than everyone else's??

TIA

Call the administration pronto to find out what your status is. They will be more that happy to help you out.

26 acceptances? So far I've seen three on this forum. Where are the other 23?

Believe it or not my fair weathered friend that a lot of potential medical students don't chime in on the student doctor network 😀 . I'm just the messenger.

Let's keep it that way. 😉 Their loss.

By the way I take umbrage to you calling me a fair weathered friend. I'm a lot shallower than that.

i'm also still waiting for a confirmation of status...will call them tomrrow 🙂

congrats to all who were accepted and good luck to all who are waiting! :luck:

i just called .... Im also in the high middle range (like Tooth) of the waitlist. no big deal since waitlists are nothing new to me 👎

there's still hope in getting in (today #13, tomorrow #2 🙂 ). I probably should have applied much earlier

damn it's a beautiful day outside. Im going to the beach 😎

anyone else going to EVMS' SMP?

So you guys going to EVMS, Will you keep us informed?

I like nice weather, grew up on a small island, so VA. Beach and Norfolk are right up my ally. I considered a move there for quite some time.

The folks who are at EVMS and post on SDN all seem to love it there. Are they h/p/f, p/f or a/b/c/d/f?

I had a long drawn out 2-4 year plan on how to get into med school, but since I have been researching EVMS, I really think I may chuck the plan and try for EVMS in 18 months.

Do you folks mind posting your stats? Just so I can see if I stand a chance....

Thanks...

the medical school is h/p/f, if you're referring to EVMS' grading system. I'm not sure about the SMP though

For all 4 years, or just the clinical years?

sunnyjohn said:

from what I understood at preview weekend, it's for all four.

EDIT: I believe in addition to h/p/f, there is honors.

Out of curiosity, what's the etiquette regarding waitlists for SMP's? Should you write a letter of intent?

I forgot you were on the MD waitlist too. I hope you get into the MD so you don't have to worry about his med masters thing.

kylahs said:

Kylahs, which third of the EVMS MD program's waitlist are you in right now? I would think that being on the MD waitlist will practically guarantee you a spot in the Med Masters program.

calbear15 said:

I would, as long as you seriously plan to honor your commitment if you are pulled off from the waitlist. That is, I think the etiquette is the same for SMPs as it is for med schools.

I'm in the top 1/3rd of the waitlist in the MD program. I am highly optimistic that I'll get in, especially with the letters I'm sending and the prayers I'm praying. Still, I was hoping that my backup, the SMP, wouldn't result in a waitlist. I'll be sending a letter of intent (carefully worded of course, being that I'm waitlisted at the MD program) within the next 2 weeks.

You're also on the waitlist, right? Which third? Did you also apply to the SMP just in case?
