Hey guys,

I am in a dilemma between choosing EVMS and Cincinnati (maybe Georgetown).
I researched other threads, and EVMS has a higher linkage rate for sure that UC and GU.

heres my situation:

I am accepted into EVMS and GU, but placed on the top 1/3 wait-list of UC.
UC's wait list starts moving around late june or early July.

However, EVMS wants me to make a decision by June 7th with a $300 deposit

Should I write a letter of intend to UC to convince them (if they let me) to move me off of wait-list? I have an extra letter of rec to be attached to the letter if needed.

OR I can make a deposit of 300 bucks for EVMS to accept the spot, but keep an eye out for UC acceptance? (losing the $300 of course)

I think GU is out of the question since it is very expensive.

In addition, do EVMS grads get good residency opportunities? what about UC's grads?

Thanks guys! Any input would be really helpful!

I doubt UC will get back to you before june 7. I would definitely write the letter of intent but I wouldn't be too pushy about a specific date. I think before doing any of that you should call the office and speak to Jeannie cummins to informally explain your situation and then go from there. the fact that you got accepted to GT and EVMS means that you are someone to be taken seriously by SMPs.

as for EVMS, remember that if you are OOS, if you go into their MD school AFTER your master's, as an MS1 your OOS tuition will be 56K.

Thank you so much for your input! Do you think the ranking of UC will affect resident matching? i know i am getting too ahead of myself since nothing is guaranteed, but I would like to take that into consideration as well.

Others' inputs are appreciated as well!

you should go to Univ. Cincinnati if you can. class is smaller, and you can qualify for instate tuition in state of Ohio after you finish SMP.

Thank you for your input! do you know if the linkage for UC is on par with EVMS? I heard its slightly less but not by much. In addition, EVMS is increasing their class size as well so that throws all the stats from previous years off the table for not being accurate.

you should definitely do everything in your power to express interest in the UC SMP. try to get in touch with the program director. I was waitlisted, and got in by doing this. I also agree with trying to go to UC--the program directors are phenomenal and its really a great program for many of the reasons listed (but to be honest, I don't know much about EVMS's SMP this year). For anonymity's sake, I don't want to give too many details but feel free to PM me if you have any other questions

Honestly, it's just $300, which pales in comparison to your cost of living and the tuition.

I personally withdrew my admission into EVMS's Medical Masters (after paying the $300 deposit) upon confirmation from Jeannie that my letter of acceptance was received by the Cincinnati office.

Factors that led into that decision:
1. Opportunity to receive in-state tuition should I ultimately attend Cincinnati for medical school.
2. UC is a much better medical school.
3. Cincinnati vs Norfolk.

PM-ed!

Thanks for your input! I am glad that I can actually withdrew my admission. I was unsure before. Did you attend last year or are you attending this coming cycle?
