Ok so here is a unique situation.

I am a big guy 6'2 300 lbs (second year med student) and I am a little nervous about doing my OB/GYN rotation. I actually like the field however I am a little leary about how well I will be accepted even as a student durring clinicals.

Have any of you ran across a med student or even OB/GYN resident who would fit my description? I am afraid it will effect my quality of care since I may be intimidating to the patient.

Any thoughts on this?

My former roomie was a starting tight end at Michigan. He wasn't as big as you, but he was pretty big. He did it and has a thriving practice now.

This is anecdotal, but I've had a big male gynecologist before, and it didn't bother me. I actually prefer male GYNs; they tend to be more gentle.

We had an ob/gyn back home who was known as the "Gentle Giant". He was about 6'6" and had to be 350+ -they had to special order gowns for him that were taller than I am! But he was really good with his patients and had a very gentle touch. He never had problems with keeping patients.

We have one resident here who is ex-military (and similar size), and he is one of the most well liked by the residents and his patients!

It really depends how big your hands are, as far going into OB/GYN practice. I don't think your overall size is an issue. I'd take a small handed man over a big handed woman for a doc anyday...:luck:
