on various threads here I've read that adcoms operate in a similar way...with some differences in format.....I have no idea how this works...I was wondering if anyone could help me out:
the question is : (1)do most schools have a committe of 10+ members who vote on each candidate? (2)how often do they meet? (3)do you need a majority vote to get an acceptance? (4)what amount of votes designates a waitlist? (5)why do some candidates hear news more quickly than others?
and (6)if they interview you with knowledge of your GPA/MCAT, does this again become part of the criteria evaluated AFTER the interview as well?

OOPS!!!!!!! that would be "EXACTLY", sorry

1) Depends...some schools leave it in the hands of one reviewer to grant the interview. They get a pile of 20 and are chose to pick 5, say. Others discuss the candidates as committees - the number depends on the school.

2) Depends...some once a week, others once ever two. Also depends on time of cycle...once a month in the beginning, once a week later in the season.

3) Depends...some schools use a committee to forward favorable applicants to a single person, who then decides alone on who to accept. Others require majority...etc.

4)Sometimes it's not votes...comes down to points. Some schools give points for GPA, MCAT, Personal Statement, Letters. of Rec, Interview. Where you fall in the points determines your status.

5) They like some candidates better than others

6) Depends on the school.

wait...wait, wait...let me think for a sec....

oh, sweet. i'm starting to see a pattern developing....

Really, I am sure there are no two schools that do it the same way. Those of us who are applicants do not totally know what goes on. We think it takes too long, but that is about it. 🙂

There is no logic to this damn process that is for sure. I never imaged applying to medical school would be this difficult. 😕

I think the reason I haven't been accepted is because they don't like my name. They are frightened by my name. I'm from Israel so they think I am a terrorist. <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

just my rantings
