Hey guys,
I'm a third year pharmacy student in Florida. I really want to be working in California in the future after graduating. Could anyone please tell me what should I do:
1) take Naplex and MpJe in Florida and license in Florida and work for a year and transfer to California ( what exam do I have to take when I transfer....?)
2) take Naplex and Cpje in California to work there?....
Is there any other suggestion? Please feel free to comment.
Thank you

depending on where you find a job. coastal california (sf, la, oc, sd) are extremely saturated, REALLY hard to find a job. try it for yourself. when you graduate in 2 years, i can only imagine how much worse it will be. but if youre okay with bakersfield, fresno, reddings, you can probably find a position.

I'd get 2 primary licenses, both Florida and California. Then you can work in FL immediately and take your time to deal with the CPJE. Then in the future you can opt to let one of the licenses lapse without affecting the other, or keep both and be no worse off.

I am a recent graduate from Florida and score transferred my naplex score from FL to CA. The Florida board of pharmacy is extremely fast. It took them five days to process my application and by the 6th day I received my ATT via email. Now the CA BOP is the complete opposite (I submitted my application to the CA BOP in May and still have not received anything smh). With that said I am glad I got the naplex out of the way 🙂 and I am fortunate enough to have a 4 month window to get licensed by. In reference to jobs my advice would be to reach out to ppl early. I received three offers prior to December in the LA area (even after several ppl told me I would not be able to find a job here). Your school should have a network of recruiters that will get you in contact with the right people on the west coast and help you secure interviews. I did a lot of traveling back and forth from FL to CA and a lot of networking but it paid off. Take advantage of your career fair (take it seriously and interview well) must recruiters will be from Fl but they more than likely will be able to put you in contact with a recruiter or DM in the area you are trying to relocate to. The moral of the story is be proactive, start early, and network 🙂

I had the majority of my rotations in Florida and two in Indiana. I started reaching out to people early and I utilized linkedin, mentors, and my schools career fair to secure interviews and contacts. I knew I was at a disadvantage so I started contacting recruiters and DMs in August of last year (when the majority of ppl weren't thinking about jobs yet). Does your school have a career fair? If you interview well at your career fair they will forward your information to a recruiter in the area you are trying to relocate too or they will give you their contact information. I secured 4 interviews in late October and November and I received 3 out of the 4 offers by December.

So again the best advice I can give to you is network as much as you can and interview well. I was fortunate to be able to stay with the company that I worked for while in pharmacy school but I knew that transferring wasn't guaranteed so I made sure I had a plan A,B, and C (Actually received the job offer for the company that I worked for while in pharmacy school last). Lastly, don't get discouraged everyone told me I would never find a job in the LA area and in reality 4 out of 5 grad interns hired in my district are from out of state schools 🙂.

Thank you so much for your advice. Please keep in touch and maybe we can each others once day in CA.
🙂
