Examkrackers books vs. Hyperlearning books

I have the complete hyperlearning books for the MCAT from the Princeton Review/Hyperlearning course. Does anyone think that the Examkrackers books will be a significant improvement over them? If not, what about the 1001 questions? I did a search and did not find much information about these books.

I am taking the Princeton Review right now, thus I have all of their hyperlearning material. I also have recently received the 1001 Organic and Physics books by Examkrackers. Both are good materials for MCAT preparation. The 1001 are discete questions that help you get the science down. If you have the science down cold, then you don't really need the 1001's, as Jon Orsay (the founder of Examkrackers) says on their website. Hyperlearning is mostly passage based questions with several discrete questions. I hope this helps.

thanks for the input. I find the hyperlearning texts to be very good, but something about the examkrakers material is pulling me to buy them. I read the reviews on Amazon and they had nothing but GREAT things to say about them...

maybe I will get the 1001 series. Did you find it as a nice supplement, or did you think there was a lot of overlap?

I'm also looking for places to get AAMC tests, but that's another topic 🙂

Sure there is some overlap, but that is what will reinforce your knowledge. Yes, they are a great supplement.

Try ebay for the AAMC tests. I do not have time to wait around and bid on them. I just broke down and bought (charged) some off the aamc website.

All I can tell you is that I thought the Hyperlearning Verbal was the best/most representative. Don't know about examkrackers.

Hmmm i took a few Hyperlearning verbals... they were a b_tch and a half!!! But so were the April '01 verbal section questions... so yeah, I agree it's pretty representative. heh

Looking for help mostly in ochem, gchem (I hate chemistry with a passion), and a simplified "essentials" text of bio. (There's just way too much useless bio information in hyperlearning IMO)

I took the hyperlearning course and although the verbal practice questions were great, their "technique" to solve the verbal problems wasn't working for me. As a matter of fact is the only weak score in my MCAT (6). So, seeing that I'm not getting any love from med schools as far as interviews go...I decided to purchase the exam crackers books just in case I have to retake the MCAT in april/august 2002. I gotta tell you, the technique Examcrackers use to solve verbal problems is working for me!!!! If I get in to med school this year, I guess I would just sell those books through ebay, but if not, I know that this next MCAT I'm going to rock the living shi- out of it!!!. As far as the sciences go, both hyperlearning and examcrakers are pretty good, hope that helps school boy,

Hey Dr. Don,
How does their method different from TPR's? I have to agree that instinctively I don't concur with the theory that you should blow off 2 passages right off the bat, for instance. In all the practice tests I've done, I've been able to get through the test with time to spare (25 minutes in one case, but that might have been due to an exceptionally easy practice test!). What do you think is better about their strategy?

tedillard, man it's beautiful....the way they do it is to read the whole passage...if you are a fast reader you won't have a problem with that. then, come up with the main idea of the passage (same as hyperlearning), but then they tell you to analyze the questions asked...NOT ANSWER THEM RIGHT AWAY!!! but analyze, and you'll see that the questions give you hints about the answers for other questions in the passage, it's kind of cool, but if you want more info, just buy the verbal book, I think it'll be worth it....and by the way, they don't give you that bull sh-t..blow away 2 passages, they train you to do them all!!!!best of luck to you!

Thanks Dr. Don, your post has got me REALLY interested in those materials. They seem like magic wizard texts with all these people recommending them so highly! I'm doing fairly well on verbal (just got a 10 on TPR A-D test B... pats self on back <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" /> ) but I'm so eager to "kick it up a notch!" I'm getting curiouser and curiouser... it's only a matter a time before I break and buy those books. 😀
