Can anyone show me an example of how it should look on the prescription to say " Take one tablet by mouth every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain" Thanks

Wow... that's not a shady question or anything.

How are you a pharmacy student without this piece of knowledge?

I have been in only 2 weeks, but the reason for my question is because I found a old script and just doesnt look like anything I have ever seen on a bottle before or like I am being taught. That's all not being shady!

It says exactly what the quote in the post said. The DR. spelled out the entire thing... Is that odd?

How can I print out a prescription so it looks just like a real one, except I can type in whatever drugs I want on it? I want to open my own doctors office, so I need to know how to make prescriptions, please help.

So when you get/fill prescriptions, they aren't normally spelled out? The bottles the pharmacy dispenses are abbreviated?

I found a old script
Well that's kind of strange as well. Where did you find it? Who wrote the prescription? Why wasn't it filled?

This thread is like the phone call I took on Friday.

Teenybopper voice: "Hi. I'm in a pediatric office. A patient forgot his pain pill. Can I call in Morphine?"

Me: "No."

Teenybopper: "OK."

*click*
Sadly, I've gotten the same call from real doctors...well, not pediatric docs though

Is it sad that when I see a question like this, I automatically think someone's trying to forge a prescription?

I'd still fill it and write the sig as "1 tab every 4 to 6 hours before meals for pain" The missing PRN isn't slowing me down (or the fact that who eats 6 meals a day?)
Why the mention of meals? Sparda just threw that part in out of nowhere. I think that's what A4MD was referring to, and I know that's what I was referring to. It's certainly too late in the year for AC, turn that thermostat up.

Since we are on the topic, what's with recommendingfood with opiates? It's not like it's going to prevent nausea or vomiting if that's what side effect they are going to experience. You are just giving them something to throw up.

The only thing I can think of is some advice I got a long time ago about going out drinking but I think it applies here:

Be sure to chew your dinner extra well if you think you are going to puke later. It is a lot easier on the innards when it comes back out :meanie:

Yes it does. In fact, that's one of the best ways to prevent nausea associated with meds. It keeps the med from being absorbed as quickly, so the lower concentration and peak prevents the nausea.
