Those that are planning to attend BU, are you guys planning to go for their excel program? Also does anyone know when is the orientation?
Thanks 🙂

For prospective students debating whether or not to do Excel...do it.

Mid9 I think I'm going to do it. It seems like a nice transition into the real deal.

As a side note, the program is better for social reasons than it is for academic reasons.

Hey Rez is there any legit work that has to be done or is it more of a review?

Is the cost covered by financial aid?

If you happen to live in close proximity to Boston, able to drive, and really need that $1000 , then i wouldn't recommend EXCEL. If you have a few free weekends, it is very possible to find an apartment and get to know Boston. However, if you don't live within driving range to Boston then I would suggest to do the EXCEL program. Everyone who was in EXCEL were happy they did it. That time helped them to get to know classmates better and settle down much easier.

You take 3 basic science classes: Physiology, Anatomy, and Biochemistry. There are also lectures by various professors regarding different topics in dentistry. You also get in the lab one day and make impressions on teeth.

You will have 2 exams in each class. Its good in that you will encounter a portion of the same material when the actual classes begin. However, you obviously cant go into quite as much detail as you would during the fall semester. Therefore, you get a taste of how the material is presented and what is expected from you as a student.

It was also helpful for me because I had been out of school for a couple years. Therefore, it allowed to be get back into the flow of things so that by the first day of classes, I was back in school mode.

But, like I stated earlier, the best part of it was that it allowed me to meet about 45 of my classmates before the fall semester. Also, I was able to find my apartment and settle into Boston. By the time the semester kicked off, I was pretty comfortable with my living situations, so no adjustment period was needed. Now, this isnt to say that you are screwed if you don't do Excel, because my fellow classmate, konovsi, is doing just fine without having done it. But, like he stated, the people who did Excel are all pretty happy that they did so.

I agree with Rez...I did it and was glad I did it. The main reason for Excel is to get together with future students and make your transition in to Boston a smoother process. You don't have to do it, it's not mandatory but it was definitely beneficial. After about a few months everyone is in the same boat, so those who don't do it don't worry about being behind or anything like that. The $1000.00 is a little much but the brownies were fantastic.
