The article in the latest edition of Radiology by Saeed et al really blew me away. (For those who haven't seen it, it involved percutaneous MRI-guided intracardiac injection of VEGF, with subsequent recovery of heart function. In an animal model, I know, but still...)

So it got me thinking. Are there any just-around-the-corner techniques or applications in radiology that get you excited? What do you think will be amazing our colleagues in 5 or 10 year's time?

Thanks Gunny for bringing that article up in Radiology re: intracardiac injection of VEGF. Very cool stuff. Radiology has and always will be one of the exciting areas of medicine!

I think fMRI stuff is cool and all that, but apart from the wow-factor and the myriad of applications for psychologists and behavioural scientists, I don't quite see the therapeutic applications for the next 10 years at least.

Maybe I'm wrong, I dunno. It is pretty cutting edge technology though!

For me, one of the initial things that got me interested in Radiology was when I was present for our hospital's first ever cardiac CT scan, on our (then) brand new 64 slice scanner. I was amazed that someone could non-invasively get pictures of that quality. That was my first wow moment!
