Let me think back my 2nd year. I did a lot of lab work that year, cutting prep and casted a lot of crowns. I sometimes had to stay past midnight because I had to finish up lab work. We did all of our prep on bench top and we were tested on bench top only when we had our test case. We did not do any indirect view practice when we did our daily work because we were not tested on it. We cut a lot of 3/4 7/8 crown preps and inlay/only type preps which helped me to develop a lot of my skills. As a matter of fact, I was gald to learn all these prep because they tend to show up more often in the board now. However, I had a difficult transition to clinic, because I was only used to cutting prep on bench top. We mentioned our concerns because we felt we spent too much time on casting crown than practicing on manikin head, but we were told we need to get the basic down before we moved on to the manikin. Sometimes, we did not get our equippment kit on time,so we couldn't do certain things in lab or we need to use subsitute which was very frustrating. Faculties were very nice and helpful. They offer a lot of help and encouragement. I think the school is trying to renovate the pre-clinical lab now and I hope the budget cut in CA would not affect the project or kept students from getting their kits on time........(cont' later) GAB
