experience for pre-optometry student

So I been researching around and I still haven't found the answer I'm looking for. I hope posting this thread will help me. Please and thank you for the help! 🙂

I'm still in my undergrad program, and I been researching and it caught my atttention that when you have hands on experience in the field then it would look better on you application. So my question is how do I start off? Should I call up offices to do volunteer work? Should I ask to be a optometry tech? How can I train to be an optometry tech?

I'm an undergrad too so here's what I'm doing. Try and shadow as much as you can and if you can. Try and shadow an opthamologist as well as an optometrist. If you can get a job as being a tech, that would look good as well. One other thing that would help a lot would be doing research as well.

It's not so much that it "looks good". Experience is so that the school, and MORE IMPORTANTLY, you, know that you really know what you're getting into and you really want to do it. There are many threads on how you can go about doing this, but a good starting point is asking your own doctor if you can come in for a day and observe. It's up to you to design your own experiences, so chase after what your interests are and the resume will follow.
