Hello everybody,
I am an FMG R2 in Internal Medicine and I am in the process of applying to Fellowship programs for PulmCC. As you know, visa is always an issue. I am on H1B in the moment (is going to be 4 years at the end of my residency), however all the fellowship programs I interviewed offer only J1 visa with the 2 year home requirement I would really like to avoid.
One possibility would be trying to get a greencard before the fellowship starts. The other possibility is trying to transfer my H1B to the new hospital and then try to apply for greencard before 6 years are over.
I wanted to know if any of you guys went trough such a process and how you managed the situation strategically with the programs before and after match. I do not want to loose my chances, but I want to be honest with them. Maybe telling them about my intentions for my visa might be a good thing, maybe not. Also interesting would be to know whether programs offered you greencards or you were able to negotiate them either pre- or post-match.
Please share with me your experiences. I would highly appreciate it, because the situation is difficult.
Thanks and have a great day, M
