I've heard a lot of people say that it helps to have worked in the health field. I've been working at a nursing home since I was 16. Would this kind of health care experience be something that would help me get into med school?

Assuming that you are working with the patients in the nursing home, and not filing papers away in a back office or something, I would say, yes, this should count. You might want to volunteer at a hospital for a semester or two as well so you also can experience what working in a hospital is like. But if you are pressed for time, I'm sure they will be satisfied with your nursing home experiences, as long as you've had lots of patient contact.
