experience with MIDWESTERN MA POST-BACC program - does it help for dental school

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is the first year that Downer's Grove has had the MA program so I'm not sure if anyone would have any realistic input or experience in that matter. The other Midwestern campus in Glendale, AZ has had the MA program for several years now though.

Oh that's right

even the MBS program...

I'm trying to figure out if its worth it 😕

Is it worth it? Everybody will have to determine that for themselves man. I'm signed up for the program this fall, I'm sure it will be great since Midwestern is an established school. Basically, as I have looked over it a thousand times and talked to admissions, it's more like 1st year medical school. Almost identical actually if you just look at the curriculum and catalog, we take classes with all of CCOM's 1st year students. I was a business major so this is me getting my foot in the door. But I ran a financial analysis, one thing I could do with my degree, and let me tell you the good news. Even if you rack up $380,000 of principal (that's the COA for CCOM and the MA program) you'll still be able to pay it off quite capably. You're interest rates will jack the numbers up to around $600,000 because of the time spent to get into an actual career, but (again from my business background) this is like buying a stock that's only going to keep growing in value, so you always win in medicine. BTW, if you're concerned about getting your foot in the door, as long as you have like a 3.5 GPA after 2 quarters in the program you get an automatic interview at any of the Downer's Grove programs. They told me this for getting into CCOM, but I doubt it will matter now since I retook the MCAT and got the average matriculant's score there. Good luck to everybody, send me a message if I'll be seeing anybody around up in Chi-town.

Hey, I am in the 1 year program at IL MWU. To be perfectly honest, good luck to you. We were promised a lot of things that didn't happen. Most of those applying to dental school did achieve there goal, although not necessarily at MWU. Of those applying to med school, 1 person in our class was accepted to MWU CCOM, while the rest of us either were waitlisted or not given an interview. There were a handful (5ish) of others that were accepted to other med schools. On top of the poor acceptance rates, the curriculum was poorly designed. Our fall quarter consisted of 12 credits, winter was 18, and then spring was back down to 12. Anatomy was awful-poor teaching and poor testing methods to put it simply. After 60% of the class was completed, something like 30-40% of the class (including OT students) was failing or very borderline. This was a major problem since we were all needing A's/B's for acceptance to professional programs. Anyway...that's just a taste of the issues that we have encountered as the inaugural class. I can only hope that things improve for future classes.
