What is everyone's experience with recruiting agencies or direct recruiters? My opinion is generally quite negative towards them. I've contacted a number of them regarding specific jobs and it is quite rare to get a call back or even an email response. I understand that there may be others with better CV's out there but I don't understand the ignoring part when my CV doesn't suck either. I left my number with one lady a couple days ago asking about a specific job that she had posted. I was ignored for a couple days and decided to call back. This time she answered and the second I gave my name, she told me that X job was no longer available. (This wasn't her only job listing. She knew which job I wanted based on my name). Would it be crazy to think that a normal recruiter would call you back and tell you that the job you wanted was not available but that several other jobs are if I was interested? Other recruiters' secretaries have promised me a call back within a day which has never happened. If you don't keep calling back to the point of annoying the crap out of them, no response will ever come. (After giving as much as a week for a callback. I'm not calling daily). I don't think all these jobs have thousands of applicants. I could understand if that was the case. I'm mostly applying in small cities/towns. I've experienced this with recruiting agencies as well as in house recruiters.

So let this be a rant/praise thread

PS: I've tried posting in the "Practicing Physicians" thread but get an error message when trying to access the forum. Any ideas?

I can't get them to stop calling me or emailing and I have not given out my CV. Even when I have told them I have a signed contract they still call back. I have heard the salary mentioned is usually inflated. I have not heard anyone who has had a good experience. If you know the area you want to work, seek out the recruiters for the hospitals and clinics. They will usually have their own in house recruiting.
