Can someone please explain C1 and C2 motion testing? Everytime I read the explanation in saverese it blows my mind!

What does C1 = ? OA or AA
C2= ?

How does motion on C1 affect motion on C2?

Thanks!

c1 = atlas
c2 = axis

OA joint = occipital atlanto joint. occipital bone sits on c1 the atlas. you know the story of Atlas the greek god? Movement between these bones is primarily moving head up and down ( nodding yes motion)

AA = Atlanto-axial joint. atlas sits on axis. primary movement is left to right. nodding no.

maybe this part did not click in which is on the top of page 15 in my 3rd Ed.
OA motion is occipital bone on C1
AA motion is C1 on C2
Then there is C2-C7

I took the exam 2 days ago and had at least 4 questions on cervical spine.

Wow, that actually helps alot. I was thinking of it totally wrong. Makes sense now. Thanks.
