I applied to COMP back in August. Unfortunately, due to a delay with one of my letter of rec, my application wasn't reviewed until late January. I received a letter from COMP saying that they are waiting till March to review my application again and decide if I get an interview. Is this a kind way of rejecting people? 😕

I think that sucks that you had to wait a whole 6 months just because of some error. It is always good to call them to see what's up.

I was finished back in August, and after seeing people on SDN get interview invites in late September, I called them up to see what was going on. They said my application was complete, but I wasn't sure if they were telling me the truth. I had a feeling it was just sitting on someone's desk and not on the committee's table. Sure enough a week later I got a phone call for an interview. The lesson is to always call to make sure things are ok.

As for the March thing, I'm not sure if it's a rejection. There still is a lot of time and I think that many people who may be thinking about COMP have other options and may decide to drop it for other schools. Thus, don't lose hope until around May if you still haven't had an interview yet. Good luck.

From what I recall...they interview in cycles...and what happened to you seems more like a "wait list" Having apps reviewed late...is always counted against you...and I know it wasn't your fault, their interview process goes on without you.
Keep up with them, and follow up in March...

Best of Luck

Yeah, it sucks. I would just recommend to other people that they have their letter of rec ready WAY in advance. The worst thing is that the professor had already written me a letter a couple years ago so all he had to do was revise the old one and send it. But I guess sometimes professors, especially non-science professors (which is what he is) don't realize the importance of turning everything into for medical school quickly. Oh well. Hopefully, I'll get in next year. +pity+ 😀

College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, its a DO school in Pomona, Ca.

I think you should have reminded him constantly. You can't just expect that he will get it there. I think in all cases of getting an LOR, you can never rely on the professor to get it there on their own. You must remind them from time to time to get it out. Keep the hope though.

Also guju, COMP is one of the best DO schools.👍

I reminded him too many times to count. I guess I'll explain the story and it will make more sense. I asked him in late August because I knew I'd have to be doing the secondary soon. He told me he was having a bit of a rough quarter but he would do it soon. So about a month goes by (by this time I'm completing my secondaries) and everyone elses letters are in except his. So I sent him a reminder and he assurred me it would be done soon. Another month went by, of which I asked him what was up a few times and he continued to assure me it would be done asap. The the fires came (down here in San Diego) and the guy got evacuated. So there goes about another month. So December comes along and I'm starting to panic so I talk to him again. He tells me that he's got so much stuff to do that he wont be able to complete it till the end of the month so I might want to ask someone else. I was so pissed because he could have just told me that and I could have worked on asking someone else. Mind you: I was a bio/european history major. And I took all my history classes with this guy, including my thesis. So I there aren't any other non-science professors that know me as well as this guy. So I had to wait for him and he ended up turning it in in Jan. All the while I was begging Western to accept another letter. Western finally agreed to let me subsitute another letter in January, which, by then, was to late. So thats what happened. I guess it was pretty much out of my control. Oh well , I learned my lesson for next time. Thanks for all your replies guys. 😀

Slickness: I just realized you got accepted at COMP. Congratulations! It is a really good school. If you go there, maybe you'll see me there in a couple years....considering my letters of rec get there early enough!

 I don't think you'll have to wait that long. You may still have a chance for this year.

Sorry to hear about your story. It sounds like that guy was just leading you on about writing the letter. To be honest, 2 of my letters were from teachers that didn't know me (Of course my other LORs were from people who knew me). I just walked into their office, introduced myself, gave them my resume and personal statement and that was it.

I had taken their classes but their classes were so big it was hard for them to get to know everyone. So sometimes, any LOR is good enough. It doesn't have to be from someone who really knows you especially if he's taking forever to get it out.
