Has anyone used the explanation sheet to describe your experiences. I just read over the directions for the experiences section and it says you can use the explanation sheet to expand if 480 characters is not enough. If we can use that I feel like I could write a solid paragraph about each vet I worked with. Would that be too much for the admissions to want to read? Any thoughts?

Any thoughts?

If they really wanted a "solid paragraph" about each experience they would have give you more than 480 characters to begin with.

Do you feel your experiences are really that different than everyone else that you need more space than what they consider normal? If they are, then go for it, otherwise I would try and keep it in the box.

I see you are accepted and going to OSU...congrats!... did you only use the 480 limit? I am considering Ohio State. What kind of experiences did you have and number of hours etc? Did you notice anything specific that OSU liked about your application or something that stood out to them?

I kept it in within the 480 characters. When I applied I had like 1500 hours in a 4 doc general practice/canine repro clinic. ~800 hours at a 24 hour emergency hospital. And like 30 hours at a shelter. I kept mine more resume style listing the things I did at each job.

I used my personal statement to talk about some of the more important things I learned from the different doctors.

I have zero idea why OSU accepted me. I never really got a positive feeling for any aspect of the application process with them.

By resume style listing do you mean that you didn't use full sentences and straight listed all the things you did:
i.e: vet assistant - drew blood, patient histories, assisted surgeries, radiography, etc, etc....
kennel staff - cleaned and medicated animals, etc, etc....
