I was thinking about taking a few classes from the UC Berkeley extension program and I was wondering if anyone knew if that was reflected on the transcripts and how extensions are looked at by ad coms? UCB has both online and in class courses and I was thinking about maybe doing both.

Thanks!

I realize Harvard has an extension program and while UCB may not have the same Ivy leauge status as Harvard but if Harvard has an extension program and it's accepted then the UCB extension program should be accepted as well without difficulties, right?

Ivy League might mean something outside of California, but as you already know UC is something different😉. Now in regards to your question. I would personally take classes through open campus via UCB Extension. Although I don't think there's anything wrong with actual Extension classes, the open campus program may prove more flexible and provide you with an ample supply of classes since you are taking the same undergrad/grad classes that the students take. For the most part, UC's have no problems with these classes (extension or otherwise). If taking normal classes through open campus, then you shouldn't run into any problems outside of CA either. I would try to stay away from online classes. UCD does not accept any online classes. However we didn't specifically ask our director of admission if it was an online class offered from a UC Extension program. I wouldn't risk it though.

Lastly, my other reason for encouraging you to take normal classes (e.g., open campus) is you will take them under the competative conditions found at UCB. To some small extent, this can benefit you if you do well in these classes. Conversely, open campus is EXPENSIVE. Cost me like....$1600 for just 3 classes or something..and thats with a UC staff discount! But it works.

Good luck!
