I think I know decent amount about what's going around the world but I am still kinda scared my some chance they ask a topic I don't know much about.

So, my question is that is it actually necessary to know much? I mean most of the topics have general answers (ie. raise awareness, educate, government interventions, school policy, advertising etc...). Should be spending my time educating my self about recent events or just focusing on other 4 subjects?

And, also since I am from Canada, will my topic be related to Canada or everyone gets a topic about America?

Unnecessary.

The essay is just a test of your ability to form a coherent response to something. Granted, it is easier if you get a topic you know something about but I got a question that I knew nothing about. I thought I blew it, but I got a 3/6 which had NO effect on my overall score. My preliminary score was 93 percentile and my final score (including the essay) was still 93 percentile.

Just make sure your writing is clear with good essay structure, grammar, and spelling. Also, practice a few runs with a timer because it goes by fast when you are in that test room. Good luck!
