My friend just got a new puppy and has started it on it's vaccinations. She told me tonight that she pulled off some sort of external parasite that wasn't a tick or flea. She describes it as looking like a larva with legs. She says it is wormlike but not as thin as a worm. I have no idea what that could be or if the frontline plus she has on her puppy would kill it. She pulled it off and killed it, but the spot where she pulled it off from made the dog bleed. It almost sounds like a leech, but we live in the central valley of California and leeches aren't common. Any information about what this could be would be greatly appreciated.

My friend showed me a picture of what this parasite closest resembles. Here is a link for it. Parasite It is a picture of a louse, but I don't know what kind of louse it is. And I also need to know what she can do to kill it. Thanks

Um....I would say go to the vet...they can probably give u a topical solution that kills parasites? I have some type of topical medication I give to my cat once a mos. that kills parasites, internal and external...fleas, lice, heartworm (ew) etc. All I do is apply it to the back of his neck...its smells strong like alcohol...but it works! He's flea free now!

I told my friend to call up the doctor that I work for because that is her vet, but she won't listen to me. She also keeps frontline on her dog, but that didn't seem to kill it.

How come she won't listen to u? No offense I'd hate to have an animal with fleas, or parasites walking around my house knowing they can jump on my bed where I sleep and stuff...oh wells...I guess if that's her decision...Does it bother u?

It does bother me sometimes. She thinks I'm an expert in veterinary medicine when I'm not. She asks me questions all the time about puppy care. It's starting to drive me nuts. She's a great friend, but she should not have a puppy. I don't know why she won't call up the vet. Even I think it's quite stupid that she doesn't call. I guess she thinks I'm gonna talk to him about it. It really is her problem and she should get it figured out. Our doctor is more than happy to answer any questions that any pet owner has. He's pretty good about calling people back when we have to take a message for him. Oh well, she's a stubborn person, so their really isn't much I can do. I do know that she got some spray for her yard to kill the millions of ticks that live there. That should kill anything else that might live there too.

Maybe tell her she could get it from her dog if she doesn't get it looked after. Mwahaha. Evil, yes.
