externships

Hi,
Im a final year medical student and i'm about to graduate.
Some forums say externships give some hands on experience. Is that true?
Do you know any places that offer externships ( clincial hands on experience) to graduates looking for a decent LOR?
I couldnt afford to apply for the USCE while in med school.
Your advice would help

google it and you may find something...sometimes you can find them for free...
there's americlerkships.com and fmgportal.com...but they're expensive...
there are externship programs like this: http://www.iau.edu.lc/externshipprogram.html
there is one place that does mini-residency (mostly observership) in miami beach, fl at mount sinai hospital that don't cost too much, but you can pretty much get an observership for free by just asking any doctor out there to shadow them...
i once saw a post stating that you can call the AMA and they can set you up with an externship, but you have to pay malpractice insurance.
