I'm planning on applying to Dental Schools in June. I really want to get into either UCLA or UCSF.

GPA: 3.5
sGPA: 3.5
DAT: AA = 23
TS = 24
PAT = 19

Extra Curriculars:
2.5 years shadowing
1 year research
Trip to Nicaragua to help undeserving populations by providing dental care

Do you guys think I need more ECs? How important are they? I really want those schools. Is there anything else you guys would recommend that I can do to make my application more appealing?

I think your solid. Very balanced application, I don't see many schools rejecting you unless your start your personal statment with this "I really want to become a dentist so I can make a **** load of money, and you know the thing about money, it DOES buy you happyness"

uh oh...i may need to edit my PS...

Numbers are solid, don't see any problems there.

Do ECAs if you like them. I really don't like the idea of people doing ECAs strictly for them to look good on paper. Do ECAs because you enjoy the activity. In turn THOSE principles will make you a better and more composed person and thus a better applicant.

I think schools "like" to see varied ECAs for this very reason. Sure dental ECAs look "good," but so do plenty of others as many incorporate dental values like outreach, service to others and helping those in need. Find something you are passionate about and run with it and never ask yourself, "will this look good to UCLA/UCSF?" in the process.
