Hey everyone~
Just lookin for some extra input....

Johns Hopkins secondary app asks for letters from two science profs and perhaps one from an employer (of a year or more). It does not mention ANYthing about optional additional letters. Would sending an extra letter from, say, a non-science prof be ok if this is not addressed in their directions or would it seem desperate? Do most people send additional letters anyway?

Please, feedback asap would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Thanks :-D

hi
i sent 2 additional letters, from previous employers/grad advisors. haven't heard back from them yet, so don't know how that was interpreted. but i imagine that as long as the letters are relevant (i.e., flesh out a sig. part of your application), i thiink the committees would be fine with reading them.

my undergrad required 2 science and 2 non-science for committee packet
so i couldn't even really follow those directions from schools that wanted fewer letter

i dont think it matters too much

oh yea
and plus
my school said 2 extra optional ones from like research or volunteer or job would be added to the packet as well

Ok... although since the letters were confidential, I don't know exactly what my professors wrote, so maybe I should send em in? One such professor was teaching me while I battling a disease where I almost lost my vision, so we got to know each other pretty well because of that. I'm not sure if he mentioned that in the letter, but who knows, he might've....

Yo, when I applied I sent 5 letters. 2 science, 2 non-science, and one kinda science (hard to explain). I don't think it hurts to send more than what they specify, and I'm sure they won't think you are desperate or anything, because I'm sure a ton of people send more than 3. Just make sure the "extra" references will write/have written you good letters. And good luck with everything! Let me know if you have any other questions about Hopkins, I'm an MS1 there.

What option do you choose when your school has a rec. letter service??

The 2 options are committee/advisor or senior faculty member.

I'm planning on sending 5 letters from professors, etc.

Should I list 2 of the 5 professors as faculty and then send the whole package?
