I don't get why a coin laundry is recommended over a home laundry? Doesn't that turn one MRSA-infected coat into a public health/safety issue?

Bleach? Then I'd lose all the color from the fancy embroidery and patch that is sewed into my white coat. F that, I just use regular laundry detergent.
