Hi Guys,

I am a fairly new to the whole world of US dental schools so bear with me.
I am graduating with a BSc. this spring. However I have not taken the DAT but will do so sometime later this calendar year. Therefore I will be applying next year for admission in 2008.

My question is, if I continue taking elective courses as an unclassified student next year (since I am finishing my program this spring and graduating) will my grades from those elective course be valued or considered equally for the purpose of overall GPA calculation as my other undergrad marks?
Basically what I am trying to do is to improve my overall GPA by taking an extra year of class, hopefully easier courses. But would my new marks as unclassified student be bundled up along with my BSc. marks? Or are they looked at differently?

Some insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Any response or help would be really appreciated...PLS!! 😕

Any courses you take will factor into your GPA. AADSAS will show the extra courses as post-bac undergrad courses rather than just undergrad. This isn't a big deal. I took all of my pre-req's this way since I'm a non-traditional student and originally graduated in 97. I wouldn't suggest taking un-related courses as the ad-com's will ask why you took an extra year before applying to d-school. Also make sure you take extra science classes that way your sci GPA is helped as well. The adcoms see your total course history, your GPA's for undergrad, post-bac, and combined, so you want to be able to explain your reasoning. Maybe take a post-bac program specifically for dentistry or appy for to a master's program.
