Hi, I am a junior premed student with a biological sciences major, and Chemistry and French Minors. I would like to find out where I currently stand with academics and extracurriculars. I would greatly appreciate if you could give me some feedback on the types of activities I have in each category and the hours spent in each category, so that I can adjust my future plans accordingly. I am planning to take my MCAT in August this year and apply to Med schools in 2022. I will be taking one gap year. I am interested in some area within pediatrics. I am a MD resident.

Goro, Faha, Gonnif, LizzyM, I would appreciate greatly if you could chime in.

Research:
I've been working in the same research lab since Spring 2019 and intend on working here till I graduate. I work for 5 hours a week and have worked in different areas in the lab, such as experiments, and using BioE softwares to analyze histological images.
I also have one poster from my bio lab.

Shadowing:
10 hours in Pediatrics and 30 hours with a Cardiologist.

Non clinical volunteering:
I tutored kids from low income families, ages 7-12, at an after school homework center (~40hours)
I helped built Ecostoves and worked on a community garden in Honduras through Global Brigades (16 hours)
I started tutoring kids in French during quarantine and intend on continuing through the end of the semester. (~60hrs)
I just joined project sunshine, a club that engages with pediatric patients, and hope to receive some hours from that as well.

Leadership:
I was the Communications Chair for Global Brigades.
I was a TA for Gen Chem 2 for a semester. I hope to TA for more classes my senior year.

Clinical Experience:
I worked in a Pediatricians office (took vitals and entered data into system): (~70 hrs)
During the brigade, I took vitals and conducted vision tests under the supervision of an ophthalmologist. (25 hrs)

Extra:
I am on a cultural dance team.
Global Medical Brigades

This summer I plan on working as an EMT for ~300hrs

During my senior year, I'd like to focus on Shadowing and nonclinical volunteering.

Gap Year: I'd like to use my gap year to fill in any gaps in my application. I'm thinking potentially Americorps, or something along the lines of that. I've also heard about programs where you can teach English in French speaking areas. My plans are very up in the air and I'd love some feedback.

I think your ECs are developing nicely, but that EMT experience will be key; you could use some more clinical experience. I'd be hesitant on mentioning global short term clinical volunteering.

For your gap year both options would be cool. Americorps probably with more brand appeal.
