obviously there is more to an applicant than the mcat and gpa etc... i think ive got the idea about how to deal with that. higher numbers = better right?

but what about extracurriculars? i think i might be able to get a work study job at a children's hospital (not sure what id be doing, but at least id be in the hospital), I'll volunteer a bit there on weekends too. Ive also become rather aquainted with a dean at my university's med school and she is looking to maybe set me up with a bit of research (possible, but seems unlikely) but definitely some shadowing etc and she said she could have me spend time with residents and everything. aside from that im not involved at my school. is this enough or am i missing something. do i need to campain for some menial postion in the premed society or other such activities? any ideas/advice welcome.

your ideas about the hospital sound on the mark.

you shouldn't join a club you won't be interested in...i think some even say you shouldn't join a club unless you can aim to be it's president/secretary/etc. it's just a waste of time otherwise. (at least for the pre-med society at my school.)
