On an unrelated but similar topic (didn't want to start a whole new thread just on this), what are people's thoughts on giving positive pressure with bag while pulling tube. Is this actually helpful or just more theoretical and perpetuated. This is something I hear mixed things about as well even amongst just academic attendings.
I usually do it. Assist a breath, deflate cuff, pull tube. I like to think it raises the odds of an expiration or cough coming before inspiration, so any goobers or slobber above the cuff are more likely to be expelled than inhaled.
I certainly wouldn't criticize anyone who doesn't do it, or argue with someone who said it was silly. Probably doesn't matter but it's what I've always done.
