Hello,

Next semester is my last semester before I apply for dental school, and is also the last semester before I graduate. My GPA has fallen from a 3.6 overall to a 3.4 throughout the years, and my semester GPA for this semester is around 2.0, bringing my overall down to around a 3.0. This scares me because I only have one semester to go. Do they look at semester to semester GPA trends? I have not taken the DAT. Would a really good DAT wipe out that GPA, if so how good? I have one year off, should I just not graduate and take classes, graduate and take post-bac courses, or graduate and do a masters? What do you all think?

Thank you.

Edit: Sorry I believe it has brought me down to 3.3, not 3.0

If you had a dip during one of your semesters, it may get asked during the interviews. (It was asked at several of my interviews) If you provide a good answer (own up to it), then it will probably work out for the best. However, I think you should try your hardest this last semester and end on a good note. Ending on a low note brings up questions like, what happened to his work ethic?

You have to prove that you can succeed in demanding upper-division science courses. I'm assuming that's what's been bringing your GPA down. They definitely do look at trends and more emphasis is always placed on more recent and harder classes. A 2.0 in your final semester is a HUGE red flag that cannot be wiped out with any DAT score. You're welcome to take your chances, but I would highly recommend a post-bac, and you need to rock those upper-division sciences.

Yes it is the upper division courses that I'm getting Cs in. It'll be a 2.0 this semester, next semester is my last semester. What about a 4.0 in the last semester and a good DAT score?

So would a master's hold more weight or more undergrad upper division courses?

take more upper div sciences and get As in them. you need to prove that you can handle dental school....and it would definitely be to your advantage to knock out the DAT since that's what equalizes everyone to some extent.
