Has anyone seen a reaction during MRI in patients with tattooed eyebrows? I had a patient tell me last week that she had to abort her MRI study when her tattooed eyebrow began to twitch and get warm. A brief Google search suggests this is a rare situation.

Anyone have any experiences with this or standard recommendations for patients in this category?

This is a concern mainly at high field (e.g. 3T and up), and mainly with prison tattoos. Normal tattoos shouldn't be a contraindication at lower field strengths, but I'm not sure what the specific guidelines are (if any).

No contra-indication.
It may cause some warmth at the site of tattoo.
It causes artifact if it contains metals that makes assessment of orbits difficult.
