F in a class

I am a senior. I just finished finals and I received a F in one of my science classes. I took like 14 credits but slacked off hard, thanks to major senioritis.

What should I do? I am applying this coming cycle and I am afraid this will be a huge red flag.

as long as the class is not pre req, i think it's fine.

What's your science GPA? What's your DAT like? Good Volunteering/ECs? Really need more info before we can help you get an idea.

The class was genetics.

Ok, so an F is 0 GPA points...which means it could bring down your GPA by .1 or .2 quite easily...the calculations are up to you to do.

So let's say it hits 3.0 for science. Not impossible to recover from. DAT is strong. Get some more As, retake genetics and get a good grade, and you'd be fine.

I understand that you are applying this upcoming cycle- can you take some courses this summer? Retake Genetics and take 3 more science classes (do 2 classes per summer session) so that by the time August rolls around, you have rebuilt your science GPA and do not need to delay applying.

I have to agree with Zeds. In order to get an F there must have not been any effort on your part. Either that or you decided to ditch class more than a couple times.

Not meaning to put you down. Everyone gets senioritis at some point. But letting it get that bad will raise questions to adcoms - especially with a 14 credit hour semester.

I can't take summer classes. The earliest I could retake the class is Fall semester.

And I overslept and missed a midterm so I got a 0 which is why this happened.

yep 4 year university's rules : no make up unless you are bedridden and hospitalized. then you can make up. But at this point, i think u wont be back for a long time anyways.

So if you missed the midterm you could pretty much figure out you were going to fail the class. Why didn't you just withdraw from it? Usually half way through the semester it'll just show up as a W instead of a WF. Yeah it would have knocked you below full time status but that's still better than failing.

Do you go to the same school as OP? b/c otherwise I'm not sure how you can make such definitive claims about OP's school policy...I go to a 4-year university and we can withdraw for whatever reason until the day before final exams...

sadly nope, but im stating a worst possible policy that is currently practice by my school
