F in nonscience class

hi I am a third year at college and my grades
for this semester aren't looking good.
I didn't pass one psych class I took it for pass/no pass
(gladly it doesn't get calculated into GPA )
my science GPA is around 3.55 (withouth physics II gpa
calculated because I haven't taken the class yet) and my overall
is around 3.7. (I can bring it up more hopefully in the future)
I am planning on taking the class again and getting an A
on it (I really did no work for this class, I am so stupid)
would dental school look at my transcript and be like
"what's wrong with this girl?" would that big fat NP hinder my
acceptance into dental school? what if I ace the DAT?
( I aced all my ochem/bio classes, screwed up physics I
that brought my science gpa down..jeez)

I was so sad after checking my grades, and worried.

In my opinion, any NP or F or D will catch the eyes of the admission committee and they probably will ask you about these grades during interview. And surely it will affects you when the admission committee evaluates your record at the first time. HOWEVER, I don't think 1 F or NP would make the adcom automatically rejects you. With your GPA, they will at least give you a chance to explain yourself. Retaking the class and try to change from NP to an A is definitely a good idea.
Secondly, I would like to point out something that you have said to make sure you get the right information. Even though PSY class is not calculated in your Science GPA, it is counted toward your overall GPA and non-science GPA. Any class you took in college or will take count!!! So do not take them lightly!
And also please understand that the DAT is not that easy to "ace" it! You will find out soon when you take the practice tests. It is not like the tests at school where we can get 90-100% all the times.
Remember that both your GPA and DAT scores should be good to be a competitive candidate. A strong DAT with a weak GPA will put you in disadvantage at certain schools! and vice versa.

becase I took the class with the option of pass or no pass.
so since I did not pass, it can't be calculated toward GPA
because they don't know whether i got flat F, -D, D or D+.
(anything below c- is not passing)
on my transcript it's only going to be shown as NP
(not passing) and it will not affect my overall GPA.
would AADS calculate that into my GPA?
how are they going to do it if it's NP (when they
have no idea whether I got D, D+, or F? I don't even
know what I got. I only know I didn't pass)

ps. I came down with a very bad flu during finals
and couldn't study for my final which was half of my grade. eeks

I know for sure that you have to report this NP grade to AADSAS when you fill out your application. I might be wrong for saying that it does count to your overall GPA, but no matter what it will be on your transcript and the adcom will notice. The adcom will not just look at your overall GPA and grant you an interview. They look thoroughly at everything before they invite you to their schools. Go to AADSAS website and check out this part about how the GPA is calculated. It is stated very clearly in the website.

Good luck!!! (But don't be too hard on yourself! Like I said, the adcom will not automatically reject you when they see your GPA and your NP, most likely they will ask you about it during your interview.)

Like i mentioned above, you are correct about they do not count NP to your GPA. BUT Still, retake that course if you can, ok?
